John W. Rutland is a red-headed force of nature born in cajun country Louisiana. His passion for cinema and visual storytelling brought him to The American Film Institute in Los Angeles where he graduated with a Masters Degree in Cinematography. John seamlessly navigates between Narrative and Documentary work. He is drawn to stories with heart and excels at visually revealing the characters’ inner struggle. He has lensed more than ten feature films which range from the Netflix breakout hit Sierra Burgess is a Loser to an installment of the Paranormal Activity franchise for Paramount and Blumhouse. His documentary work has brought him to 6 out of 7 continents and includes the Emmy Nominated Netflix series The Playbook and most recently the Disney+ series The Biggest Little Farm where he and his family spent the pandemic living and working on a farm. John and his family currently reside in Altadena, California with seven chickens and a tortoise named Bubbles.
